Delicious craft kit from Trader Joe’s

22 Dec

A house so cute you could just eat it up! : )

Crafts are best when you can eat your creations!

Open mouth; insert phone number

Trader Joe’s dangles a carrot at the end of the check out counter for shoppers who bring their own bags. That carrot is the chance to win a $25 TJ’s gift card.

For saving the planet from plastic bag strangulation and grocery sack deforestation, you get to write your name and phone number on a raffle-ticket-turned-entry-coupon. There are winners chosen randomly every day. That’s in addition to the daily winner: the environment.

But wait. There’s more.

To make the game even better, TJ staffers have decorated the coffee can ticket containers, so you drop your winning dreams into a mouth. Crafty and creative. Clever touch. Well played.

Meyer Lemon Cookie Thins: Dainty, but strong

14 Jan

I was invited to lunch and tea today with my friends Kem, Madalene and Amanda. It was a lovely three hours of delicious food and conversation. The lunch had a smooth cross dissolve into tea and cookies. The tea was wonderful – Benner Green Tea with orange, passion fruit and jasmine.

The cookies were Trader Joe’s Cookie Thins.

You’ll notice that the box contains only one stack of cookies. That’s because we ate the other at lunch.

They’re dainty lemon crisps with a flavor that you can’t mistake. I’ve tried other lemon cookies where the taste was too subtle. The lemon was more of a suggestion than an actual main ingredient. With this cookie, the lemon inside is clear.

Madalene had an idea: Honey and lemon are a tasty combo, so why not squeeze a little honey on the thins? Which she did, then we did, and then we ended up making lemon cookie and honey sandwiches.

Highly recommended.

Thank you, Kem, Madalene and Amanda!

A Thanksgiving post: Top six reasons I’m thankful for Trader Joe’s

21 Nov

There are so many reasons I love Trader Joe’s. I thought I’d offer a few of them here:

1) Friendly

A pumpkin welcome sign

Welcome to the tasting station. Welcome to Trader Joe’s.

It’s the feeling you get when you walk in the door, when you’re sampling a snack at the tasting bar and when you’re chatting with the cashier while you’re checking out. The smiling. The helpfulness. The amazing return policy.

I’ve been to many businesses that are friendly. Trader Joe’s takes friendliness to another level. It’s part of the culture.

2) Personal

The service is personal and so is the packaging.

3) Fun

4) Animal friendly

5) Cheaper than most

Just check out a couple of my price check posts:

6) Good food

And after all the other nice-to-have qualities, the bottom line is that the food is good. The Yum Factor is high.

Halloween at Trader Joe’s: Treat or treat

29 Oct

Of course – of course! – Trader Joe’s is a great place to stock up for a Halloween party! Even without Halloween-themed items, it’s a no brainer, even for a zombie.

But, Trader Joe’s being Trader Joe’s, there are many Halloweenish goodies for your partying pleasure. Cases in point:

Halloween cookies from Trader Joe's

I hope that these give you a start in preparing for your Halloween celebration. If you’re on the East Coast, please stay safe this week through Hurricane Sandy. I hope the wind and water subside before Wednesday.

Take good care.
