West Los Angeles Coffee Station Style

15 Apr

Hello, sweetener!

What a difference a day and about 2,000 miles make. Back in America’s heartland, we’re offered household sugar at our Trader Joe’s coffee tasting station. But in West Los Angeles, I was greeted at the coffee counter by Liquid Stevia and Blue Agave Sweetener.

Another way TJ’s knows its customers and makes it local.

A brownie bite of heaven

24 Aug

Last week, I wanted to bring treats to work. Small was a big factor, something my coworkers could have a pick-me-up, avoiding the weigh-me-down tendency of larger treats.

There were a couple of options, including the aforeblogged and beloved lemon bars. Although we’re all on the healthy choice side,  I’ve felt a chocolate vibe lately in the office, so I went with the Sea Salt Brownie Petites. Small, potentially a low crumb factor and chocolate.

When I buy items at Trader Joe’s, I’m always eager to find out if they’ll make it to this blog. However, when I bought these brownies, I was more concerned with what would be most appreciated at work, and I kind of forgot about the posting potential.

Then a few things happened.

1) Co-worker delight. The rave reviews at work were unanimous.

2) Utter happiness. I tried one and in the words of the sages, OMG!!! They are SO good! Densely chocolate and just the right portion size to keep the guilt meter happy.

3) Lightbulb. I realized I had the subject of the coveted Friday post position.

Thank you, so much, Trader Joe’s!

Trader Joe’s: #Winning

10 Aug

Everyone can win at Trader Joe’s.

Many TJ’s locations offer a daily raffle. If you bring in your own shopping bag(s), you can fill out a little ticket for a chance to win a $20 TJ’s gift card.

After months of filling out ticket after ticket after ticket, I asked a staff member, “Does anyone ever really win?” The staff member said that TJ’s drew five tickets per day – five lucky winners. Per day. Yes, I have super poor raffle karma, but I still thought getting one of those golden calls was a myth.

Until I got the call to claim my card – no passing GO, no forms to fill out, no strings attached. I couldn’t believe my ears! Luckily, the call had gone to voice mail, so I could replay and verify that I really, really won.

So, if you consider yourself someone who never wins “these things,” yet you fill out raffle tickets compulsively, each time shrugging, shaking your head and smiling nervously as you recite our mantra, “I never  win these things,” take heart. It is possible. You can be a winner, too!

Thank you – thank you! – Trader Joe’s!
